The Importance of Commercial HVAC SEER Ratings

If you’re in the market for a new commercial HVAC system, there’s a list of factors you need to take into consideration before making a purchase. According to heating and air conditioning maintenance companies, one of them is the seasonal energy efficiency ratio, commonly known as the SEER rating. Continue reading here to learn about the importance of this rating.

HVAC SEER Ratings

Efficiency. Simply put, the SEER rating indicates how energy-efficient the HVAC equipment is. It constitutes the ratio between the cooling capacity of the system and the relative amount of energy it consumes during the cooling season. The higher the SEER rating, the more energy-efficient the unit.

Lifespan. The SEER rating can also indicate how prone an HVAC system is to wear and tear. For instance, since a higher rating suggests greater energy efficiency, this means that there will be less wear and tear on system components. And since this minimizes the need for HVAC repair or replacement services, it enables you to get the most out of your investment. Given the high costs associated with replacing a commercial HVAC system, finding ways to prolong the life of your unit can save you a lot of money in the long run.

Savings. The SEER rating provides information on how much it will cost a year to operate and maintain a central cooling system. To determine how many watts the system will use per operating hour, divide the amount of BTUs by the SEER rating of the unit. To calculate the annual operating cost, on the other hand, simply multiply the number of watts per hour by the average number of hours the system is expected to operate within a year and your electricity rate.
